The developers of No More Heroes and Deadly Premonition nearly made a PSVR game together. Sadly, it wasn’t to be.
Hidetaka ‘Swery65’ Suehiro and Goichi ‘Suda51’ Suda mentioned the project in a recent IGN livestream. The pair of legendary developers had already announced they were teaming up to make a game. At one point, that was to be a food-themed PSVR game. However, they since scrapped the project to work on a horror game codenamed Hotel Barcelona.
Swery65 is best known for the eccentric Deadly Premonition series, while Suda51 is behind the No More Heroes franchise. These are some of the strangest, most surreal games out there and both have amassed cult followings. It’s a real shame that they won’t be bringing their unique strain of creativity to PSVR, at least for now.
There aren’t any other details on what the game would have been like. We can’t speak Japanese so we can’t tell if the pair shared any more information. We can only imagine it might have resembled some sort of Overcooked-style frantic cooking mechanic. VR already has a fair few Overcooked clones, though.
We’d love to see either No More Heroes or Deadly Premonition in VR, though. Both games are getting official sequels already but we can’t help but think what VR spin-offs would be like. In fact we’re a little surprised they haven’t already happened given that other Japan-developed cult hits like Gungrave have already got VR versions.
