You can now order the full Index VR kit for “immediate shipping”, according to Valve Corporation.
Buyer demand for the Index VR bundle “outpaced” the initial supply, according to the private Bellevue-based company. For example, the company just delivered us a a kit this week we ordered in early May. As of this writing, though, Valve estimates delivery of an order placed today in four to eight business days.
Below is the statement from the Bellevue-based company explaining the availability of the Index PC-powered VR kit. The Valve Index kit (read our review) sells as a bundle for roughly $1,000 with tracking base stations, head-mounted display (including powerful off-ear speakers), and a pair of Index controllers which enable more intuitive interactions in some games downloaded from Valve’s Steam store.
According to Valve:
Users were asked to reserve their hardware as new kits were in production. Starting today, immediate orders are available for customers in the US and a similar announcement will be forthcoming for other US SKUs as well as those in other international territories. All prior reservations will be honored.
Developers continue to update games with support for the Index controllers on an ongoing basis. We’re still awaiting details on Valve’s forthcoming “flagship” VR game. The untitled project should release this year for SteamVR-compatible headsets and it’ll likely be a showcase for deep integration with the Index controllers.
