Shop for makeup like never before with this team up from NYX and Samsung Gear VR.
If you are one of millions of subscribers who rely on beauty vloggers for product reviews, tutorials, and the latest and greatest contour techniques, you’re in luck. Three of the beauty world’s most popular influencers, who have reached unprecedented numbers of followers through Snapchat, Instagram, and YouTube, are now stepping up their beauty game with VR makeup tutorials in collaboration with the “Impossibly NYX Professional Makeup” experience.
Launched Dec. 18 in select NYX stores in NYC and Los Angeles, the experience gives shoppers the chance to join NYX ambassadors and beauty influencers Kristen Leanne, Mykie, and Karen Sarahii Gonzales in VR for a tutorial experience unlike anything they have ever seen before.
Shoppers choose an influencer based on which look they are going for, fill out a quick survey about their skin type and beauty habits, and jump right into the tutorial using the Samsung Gear VR.

Unlike traditional makeup tutorials that are filmed in portrait mode, the VR tutorials have the vloggers seated a bit further back so that the products used in the tutorial can float across the screen with easy-to-read information about price and name to simplify the shopping process. However, this doesn’t mean that the shoppers miss out on any of the look’s details—the experience has a pause and zoom feature that allows users to zoom in on individual features like contour, eyeliner, etc. before zooming back out and continuing the tutorial.

As the experience comes to a close, users can select products they would like to learn more about, and even receive a discounted offer on the products used in the tutorial.
For NYX, the experience was a perfect way to break into the “new frontier in the beauty industry,” virtual reality. “Our community is passionate about their connection to beauty influencers, and Samsung’s Gear VR technology provides our customers with a level of immersion and proximity to their favorite beauty vloggers that they’ve never experienced before,” said VP of Digital at NYX Professional Makeup Mehdi Mehdi.
The experience is available now at Union Square in NYC and Century City and NYX Cerritos in LA. The experience will roll out throughout all NYX locations across the country in 2018.
