Black Rock City meets the multiverse in this one-of-a-kind virtual celebration.
This past April, festival organizers made the painful decision to cancel Burning Man 2020 citing ongoing concerns over COVID-19. Normally held every year in the Black Rock Desert of northwestern Nevada, the legendary event has established itself as one of—if not the most unique annual festival in the world, celebrating everything from music and art to radical inclusion, gifting, and self-reliance.
In an effort to keep the Burning Man culture alive during these trying times, organizers have teamed up with socialVR platform Somnium Space VR along with musicians, lecturers, party organizers, artists, and many others to create “Take Me To Your Burn,” a virtual Burning Man event which will allow attendees to explore a vast multiverse stacked with the live music, art, educational workshops, and a variety of other digital offerings.
Beginning August 31st, users can log on to Somnium Space VR via a VR headset or desktop computer and immerse themselves in a massive virtual space designed to replicate the original Black Rock City, a temporary settlement constructed every year as part of the event. Here you’ll have the opportunity to interact with fellow attendees, enjoy a wide selection of unique art, catch live performances from a number of DJ’s and bands, and participate in a variety of workshops.
Here’s a full list of what to expect:
- Over 30 galleries worth of digital art and installations submitted by 40+ artists from around the world.
- Performances by over 150 DJ’s scattered across five virtual stages inspired by specific labels and records as well as a solo stage for solo DJ’s. Performances will be live-streamed to Twitch and YouTube directly from Somnium Space.
- Performances by over 30 musicians and bands on the main stage and a solo stage dedicated to solo performers.
- Over 20 workshops and lectures conducted on four special stages. Topics include eco-living, health and fitness, and spirituality just to name a few.
Take Me To Your Burn takes place August 31st – September 7th exclusively on Somnium Space VR, available free via SteamVR. Those without a headset can access a 2D version of the same experience on a desktop PC via the official website.
