The ultimate friend-ruining VR experience is now available on standalone.

There are few VR games more stressful, more anxiety-inducing than Star Trek: Bridge Crew. Originally released for the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and PS VR back in 2017, the collaborative team-based experience tasks a group of four players with piloting the U.S.S. Aegis through an uncharted sector of space referred to as “The Trench” in search of a new home for the nearly-extinct Vulcan population.

Each player takes on a specific role aboard the ship–Captain Helm, Tactical, and Engineer–and is assigned a set of duties that include everything from piloting the ship to operating the weapons system. In order to keep their ship afloat and successfully evade an aggressive Klingon fleet, the team must communicate and strategize with one another without succumbing to the pressure of deep-space combat.

The game features a fully-developed, dynamic storyline that can be enjoyed solo or cooperatively, as well as an “Ongoing Missions” mode adding several additional hours of gameplay.

Star Trek: Bridge Crew is available now on Oculus Quest for $29.99; $5 more than the original Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and PS VR releases. In July of last year, Oculus launched a new DLC pack which allowed players to man the helm of the legendary U.S.S. Enterprise D as featured in Star Trek: The Next Generation, as well as two new game modes: Patrol, which features randomly-generated events and enemy encounters resulting in endless hours of play; and Resistance, a mode that tasks players with avoiding a Borg Cube while completing a series of objectives.

This update also introduced a new player role: Operations, a supervisor-type position dealing primarily with crew management and ship buffs; as well as new enemy types, including the Romulans and the Borg.

No word yet on if or when the Quest release will ever receive The Next Generation DLC. It’s also unclear at this time if the standalone version will feature cross-play with PC VR or console platforms. Still, the ability to easily hop into one of VR’s most popular co-op experiences without the hassle of external trackers or cables makes this a must-buy experience for Quest owner in-need of a AAA multiplayer VR experience.
