Paramount’s biggest 2D & 3D films head to Bigscreen Cinema platform as part of a multi-year deal.
Bigscreen is an amazing app that lets you watch movies, play PC games, and hang out with your friends in social VR chat rooms. It’s also a great platform for remote collaboration by allowing workers to connect with one another via virtual meeting rooms where they can share their computer screens and communicate on a more intimate level.
As if that weren’t enough already, a newly announced multi-year partnership with Paramount Pictures will soon transform Bigscreen into the ultimate movie watching experience.
Starting today, four blockbuster films will premiere on the Bigscreen platform every week. Movies will run for one week, at which point they will be replaced a fresh new lineup of blockbuster films. These movies will be broadcast live on a pay-per-view basis with scheduled showtimes every 30 minutes. December’s lineup includes hits like Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar and JJ Abram’s Star Trek film. Other future releases will include Top Gun as well as Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

Using Bigscreen, watching a movie in VR is virtually the same as enjoying a picture at your favorite movie spot or your buddies kick-ass home theater. The only difference is that you’re viewing the entertainment with audience members from all over the globe as opposed to just your local neighborhood; all without having to leave your couch. Simply set up your free account, add some personal touches to your custom avatar, and head on over to Bigscreen’s virtual lobby before or after the film. There, you can discuss movie plots, your favorite scenes, or even pitch your own terrible idea for a film!
Tickets for each movie are only $3.99 and can be purchased at Bigscreen’s virtual box office.
In an official press release, Bob Buchi, President, Worldwide Home Entertainment, Paramount Pictures said, “Bigscreen’s virtual reality platform offers a new way for fans to experience films in their homes,” adding, “We’re excited to be a part of this experiment using cutting-edge technology to give fans a new entertainment option.”
Bigscreen’s virtual screenings are available in 10 countries at launch: the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Sweden, Australia, and Japan. In addition to 2D films, Bigscreen will also show select movies in 3D.
Yes, that’s right. You’ll be able to watch movies in VR in 3D.
How exactly can they do this you ask? Bigscreen’s rendering technology uses VR to create a perfect 3D picture in each eye, producing a level of depth and detail that is not possible with traditional 3D glasses. This means you’ll have a better 3D experience in Bigscreen than you would at your traditional movie theater.
The partnership between Bigscreen and Paramount Pictures goes beyond a social movie watching experience. It could be the future of how we watch films on opening day or how we enjoy live concerts.
For Bigscreen, it’s part of the evolution of entertainment. “We are excited to enable fans around the world to hang out, chat, and watch films together in our virtual movie theater,” said Darshan Shankar, CEO, and Founder of Bigscreen.
Bigscreen launched back in 2014 and has since amassed over one million users, with some spending an incredible 20 – 30 hours per week inside the social VR platform. Bigscreen is available for free on the Oculus Quest, Oculus Rift S, Oculus Go, HTC Vive, Valve Index, all SteamVR headsets, and Windows Mixed Reality headsets.
