Arizona Sunshine For Oculus Quest Arrives Next Month, Will Not Support Cross-Buy

The 2016 zombie shooter is now available for pre-order on Oculus Quest.

During the E3 2019 this past June, Vertigo Games announced that their popular VR zombie shooter Arizona Sunshine would be heading to Oculus Quest headsets before the end of the year. Yesterday, the title was made available for pre-order on the Quest with the store page listing the official release date as December 5th

Originally released in 2016 on SteamVR, Oculus, and PSVR, Arizona Sunshine offered users one of the first full-fledged gaming experiences designed from the ground up for the VR format. Three years later and the adventure-horror title remains one of the most popular on SteamVR and Oculus. Since launch, Vertigo Games has provided users with two DLC releases: Dead Man and The Damned, each of which expanding further upon the Arizona Sunshine universe with new characters, locations, and weapons.

In a comment made yesterday by a Vertigo Games community team member in response to a Reddit post, The Quest release of Arizona Sunshine will not feature cross-buy support for the Oculus Rift/Rift S, which means those looking to play on standalone will either have to purchase another copy or connect to their VR-ready PC via Oculus Link and access their original Rift version.

“As mentioned before in the Discord channel, one of the tough decisions we’ve had to make was to not offer cross-buy as to support the development of this version and it’s DLC,” states the company in their response. “The game has been rebuilt from the ground up for this release.”

As this latest version was built from the ground up for Quest, standalone users will be unable to play alongside PC VR or PSVR players. DLC will arrive a couple of months after launch, though Vertigo has yet to confirm whether or not they will come at additional cost.

I for one cannot wait to hop back into the world of Arizona Sunshine, this time without the hassle of cumbersome cables. That being said, the lack of cross-buy support does feel like a punch to the gut, especially when you consider the $35.99 price tag. Hopefully, Vertigo Games chooses to release both post-launch DLC packs as free downloads; that would certainly help take away the sting of purchasing the title a second time.
