Vanquish the ant space brigade, rescue the alien mayor, and disable the doomsday weapon before it sets off, bro!

Justin Roiland, co-creator of Rick and Morty and co-founder of Squanch Games, continues his VR love affair with Dr. Splorchy Presents Space Heroes, a mobile VR experience available now on the Google Daydream platform.

Following the same comedic style found in past Squanch titles, such as Accounting and Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality, the outrageous space adventure includes all the charm and humorous dialogue you would expect from a Roiland project.

According to a post made on the official website (in all caps), “YOU AND YOUR BROTHER ARE IMPORTANT SPACE HEROES. WITH THE HELP OF ME, DR. SPLORCHY, YOU’VE MADE YOUR WAY INTO THE HEART OF THE EVIL SPACESHIP LORD SHIP WHERE YOU MUST DEACTIVATE HIS WEAPON OF MASS DESTRUCTION. YOU CHOOSE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.”

Players will engage in plenty of sci-fi action, whether they’re blasting away at oncoming waves of highly-advanced space brigade ants, or rescuing the visually uncomfortable alien mayor from a dastardly kidnapping. Of course all that effort won’t mean a thing unless you’re able to disarm a WMD capable of unknown levels of destruction. It’s unclear whether or not players have the ability to effect how the story plays out, although the line “you choose what happens next” has me thinking we could play have a role in a final decision made at the end of the adventure.

As Squanch Games’ mascot, Little Splzooshy, might say, “Damn son! Spaceships and sci-fi ant soldiers! Hoo boy!”

Dr. Splorchy Presents Space Heroes is available now on Google Daydream compatible headsets for $4.99.

Squanch Games will return to high-end VR with their next offering, Trover Saves The Universe, available on the PS VR some point next year. Hopefully this doesn’t deter the studio from releasing smaller, mobile-based VR experiences, such as Dr. Splorchy, in the future. Roiland’s comedy blends perfectly with short-form VR storytelling, providing a casual, but powerful tool in which to tell quick, interactive stories.
