Starting today, a new VR experience is available on Viveport at a price point of $4.99 for HTC Vive that lets you visit the cabin that Ted Kaczynski (aka “The Unabomber”) lived in for over 20 years while planning his attacks. Unabomber: The Virtual Reality Experience was created by Immersion VR and the Newseum with support from Vive Studios.
The experience is designed to give users a brief glimpse into what it would have been like to investigate the cabin as an F.B.I. agent as you piece together clues. At the start of the experience users get to decide whether or not to publish the infamous Manifesto, “Industrial Society and Its Future,” as part of the investigation, for example.
Despite the interactivity, it’s not really a “game” exactly, but more of an interactive, simulator-style virtual museum exhibit complete with voice over narration. But being in VR, it’s able to go several steps beyond what would be possible in a real-life museum.
The Newseum previously helped publish a VR experience about the Berlin Wall and is now working on additional historical recreations in VR. Unabomber: The Virtual Reality Experience is available on Viveport starting today and will release on Steam on an unannounced future date.
