From the creators of ‘Budget Cuts’ comes a VR horror set within the World of Darkness fictional universe.
Fans of horror gaming gems such as Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Alien: Isolation are in for a treat as Fast Travel Games—the award-winning developer behind the Budget Cuts series, Apex Construct, and The Curious Tale of the Stolen Pets—today announced Wraith: The Oblivion – Afterlife, a brand new VR horror game where players take on the role of a ghoulish wraith tasked with uncovering the mysteries beyond the mysterious “Shroud.”
“I am a massive fan of games like Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Alien: Isolation, and have always felt that the kind of narrative-driven, exploration-focused horror these titles deliver would be perfect for VR,” states Erik Odeldahl, Creative Director at Fast Travel Games, in an official release. “To make such a game in the World of Darkness setting, specifically the rich and mystical world of Wraith: The Oblivion, is really a dream come true for me, and I cannot wait to share more details about it!”
Wraith: The Oblivion marks the first VR game set within the World of Darkness, a series of fictional universes serving as the settings for a handful of supernatural horror themed role-playing games, including Vampire: The Masquerade and Werewolf: The Apocalypse.
In these worlds, horrifying monsters and ordinary humans roam a contemporary world fueled by corruption, greed, cynicism. Much like past games set within the World of Darkness collected universe, Fast Travel Games’ VR game will have you playing from the perspective of a ghostly wraith exploring the confines of the modern Barclay Mansion.
“Playing games in the World of Darkness story universe, whether it’s tabletop, traditional video game, or VR, lets us experience a dark, urban fantasy layered over our modern world,” adds Sean Greaney, Brand Manager for World of Darkness at Paradox Interactive. “By assuming the perspective of a monster, we can gain a better understanding of what it truly means to be human. We’re excited to be taking our first steps from the Skinlands toward Stygia in World of Darkness version 5 in such an innovative and appropriate medium. Death is only the beginning in Wraith: The Oblivion…”
No word yet on an official release date, though Fast Travel Games’ promises a full gameplay reveal during Gamescom Now on August 27th. According to the developer the game will launch on all major VR headsets.
