MelodyVR enlists the former boy band member for their first live VR concert.
Liam Payne, former member of English-Irish boy band One Direction, is hosting a secret concert for a small handful of lucky fans somewhere in London, U.K. tomorrow evening; and while a majority of the Payne fans will unfortunately be unable to attend the sold out performance, they can still catch all the action live in VR, courtesy of MelodyVR.
Available for free on the Samsung Gear VR and Oculus Go, MelodyVR is home to on-demand musical performances from over 750 artists, including major acts such as Post Malone, Bebe Rexha, The Chainsmokers, and The London Symphony Orchestra. With Payne, the company makes their first attempt at a live 360-degree broadcast.
“I can’t wait for this show,” states Payne. “For those who are going to be there on the night, it’s going to be amazing… but the fact there will be people from right across the globe watching the live stream via MelodyVR makes it extra special.”
“There are so many fans who can’t get close to the artists they love,” says MelodyVR’s founder Anthony Matchett. “The fans may be on the other side of the planet. Perhaps it is not affordable or the show has sold out. Many of the artists we work with have tours that sell out in minutes. When you can’t get into a stage show, festival or even an exclusive VIP session, we can put you onstage.”
Similar to MelodyVR’s other musical offerings, fans will have the opportunity to move throughout venue by warping to several 360-degree cameras scattered throughout the space. This includes the middle of the crowd, the front row, even on-stage next to Liam himself.
The live concert will be streaming via the free MelodyVR app available for download on the Oculus Store. While several of the companies other on-demand offerings cost extra to view, Payne’s show will be available free to live stream in the U.S., Britain, France, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria and Belgium; plans for launch in South Korea, China, Taiwan and Japan are on the horizon.
Those unable to view the show in VR can also catch the action through their web browser or smart device using Facebook Live.
