Blade And Sorcery Is Coming To Oculus Quest 2

https://ift.tt/eA8V8J

Warp Frog’s VR hit, Blade And Sorcery, is coming to Oculus Quest 2 next month.

The physics-driven VR combat simulator launches on the standalone headset on November 4 for $19.99 as a separate, standalone version called Blade & Sorcery: Nomad. The game still features a sandbox mode in which you can experiment with both melee and magic-based combat in hilarious and often very violent ways. Blade And Sorcery was one of the first games to really explore what physics-driven VR combat could feel like, and it’s still a hugely popular release on SteamVR as a result.

Nomad will also include the new Dungeons mode, which was recently added to the early access version of the game on PC as part of a free update. This is a more linear mode in which you visit randomized rooms and clear out enemies. Currently, this mode is in its early stages on PC, with more options set to be added in future updates.

Blade And Sorcery was already rumored to be coming to Quest 2, with Warp Frog noting that, if it happened, it would likely be exclusive to Quest 2. The most recent standalone headset is more powerful than the original Quest, and other games like the recently-released Resident Evil 4 are exclusive to the new headset too.

What do you make of Blade And Sorcery: Nomad coming to Oculus Quest 2? Let us know in the comments below!

Horizon Workrooms Will Let You Customize The Room Later This Year

https://ift.tt/30ZHxN9

Horizon Workrooms is set to expand, offering users the ability to customize rooms and add custom logos and graphics.

These new features won’t be available until later in the year, but will let users add some personal touches to the Workrooms, including a custom logo graphic on the wall and custom posters. Users will also be able to switch between “a wider variety of environments”, one of which is pictured below.

In its current state, Horizon Workrooms only offers one room with no customization beyond the seating arrangement. Users can only choose between conversation, boardroom table and presentation settings, which alter the direction of the seats but nothing about the room itself.

On a call earlier this week Facebook’s Product Management Lead, AV/VR for Enterprise Jill Campbell said that these new customization options are only the beginning of future personalization plans for Workrooms. “This is one step we’re going to take in that direction with lots more to come.”

The image embedded above shows a brand new environment set among city skyscrapers, while the image below shows the default countryside setting that launched with Workrooms. The images also show the custom logo and poster integration, exampled here by Zoom (whose video conferencing service is soon to receive native integration with Workrooms).

Workrooms launched earlier this year as Facebook’s remote work and collaboration solution for VR. It allows teams to meet in VR and work together with a sense of presence as if everyone is in one room. It achieves this by harnessing a combination of existing and emerging technologies, such as spatial audio, keyboard and hand tracking, passthrough, remote desktop and Oculus Avatars.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Is Coming To Oculus Quest 2

https://ift.tt/eA8V8J

Rockstar Games’ hugely popular PS2-era hit, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is coming to the Oculus Quest 2 in the future.

This will likely be a full version of the open-world title ported to VR for the first time. San Andreas is one of the best-recieved games of all time, giving players the freedom to explore a huge world, drive vehicles and take on missions with different weapons. The game is traditionally played in third-person, but it’s likely that this port will be in first-person for the first time. The news broke on the Oculus Blog.

It looks like the game will be fully exclusive to Oculus Quest 2, with no version for PC VR headsets or the original Quest. Facebook has started releasing Quest 2-exclusives like the upcoming port of Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond, too.

The news comes off the back of remastered versions of GTA: San Andreas as well as GTA III and GTA: Vice City for the current generation of consoles.

This is the second PS2-era port Facebook is bringing to Oculus Quest 2. Earlier this month the company released a port of Resident Evil 4 in VR, which we thought worked incredibly well. These might not be the most graphically demanded titles on the market today, but they’re a good match for Quest’s limited computing power.

We’re expecting plenty more news out of Connect today, so stay tuned.

Beat Saber Passes $100 Million In Revenue On Quest Platform Alone

https://ift.tt/eA8V8J

Facebook announced today that Beat Saber has passed $100 million in revenue on the Oculus Quest platform.

In January this year, Facebook announced that over 60 titles had surpassed at least $1 million in revenue on Quest. This puts the milestone into perspective – Beat Saber was able to reach $100 million on Quest just 10 months after other apps on the platform had only just surpassed the $1 million mark.

In February, Facebook revealed that Beat Saber had sold 4 million copies across all platforms. It also revealed that Onward had reach $10 million in revenue on Quest, while Population: One had reached $10 million on the Oculus Store (Quest and Rift). In July 2020, Virtual Desktop announced it had reached $3 million in revenue on the Quest platform.

While we don’t have complete revenue data for many titles on Quest and other platforms, we believe Beat Saber to be the most popular VR app available across all platforms.

As another point of comparison, critically-acclaimed and multi-platform hit The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners announced this week that it had reached $50 million in revenue across all platforms (Quest, PSVR, PC VR).

Saints & Sinners launched for PC VR in late 2020, before launching on PSVR in mid-2021 and Quest 1/2 around the latter’s launch in October 2021. Beat Saber launched as a Quest launch title in May 2019.

In around two and a half years, Beat Saber has reached $100 million in revenue on the Quest platform alone, while Saints & Sinners is at $50 million mark after a staggered launch on multiple platforms that just under two years ago.

Horizon Home Replaces Quest Home, Adding Social Integration & Parties

https://ift.tt/eA8V8J

Announced today at Facebook’s annual Connect conference, Horizon Home will replace Oculus Home on the Oculus Quest platform, bringing new social integration with multiple users.

“Launching soon as an update to the existing Home experience, this is our early vision for your Home in the metaverse,” Facebook explains on the Oculus Blog Connect recap. “A social space where you can bring friends to hang out, watch videos together, or jump into POPULATION: ONE with your squad.”

The ability to build and customize your home environment, akin to the tools available on Oculus Home for Rift on PC, will arrive “in the future” according to Facebook. Customization is on the way, but is “a little further out” than the new social integration features launching soon.

Speaking on a call earlier this week, Facebook’s VP of VR/AR (and 2022’s incoming CTO) Andrew Bosworth discussed how Horizon Home will be the new landing point for any Quest headset, replacing and building on the current Oculus Home system with more features.

“Horizon Home is the first thing you’re gonna see when you put on your Oculus Quest,” he said. “Previously there was Oculus Home when you put it on, but our goal is to actually make it Horizon Home [and] make it more social so you can invite your friends to join you as avatars.”

Facebook did not specify what video services would be supported to “watch a video” with friends in Horizon Home. The promotional video, embedded above, showed support for “Oculus Originals” 360 video experiences and a tab with “Your Media”, which might indicate support for local media files stored on the headset.

Other existing first-party services, like Oculus TV and Facebook Watch, are likely bets as well. However, it remains to be seen whether existing media streaming options (such as using web streaming services through Oculus Browser) will support multiple users in Horizon Home.

Likewise, there was no word on any new partnerships with major third-party content providers, such as Netflix, Disney+ and more, which could provide better and/or native social viewing integration with Horizon Home.

Facebook also announced that, starting later this year, Quest will support Messenger audio calls in VR, allowing you to call your Facebook friends from within your headset.

3 Of PSVR’s Best Games Are Free On PS Plus Next Month

https://ift.tt/eA8V8J

Three of PSVR’s very best games are being given away at no extra charge for PlayStation Plus members next month.

As part of the headset’s fifth-anniversary celebrations, Sony is giving away The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, The Persistence and Until You Fall from November 2nd. As long as you’re signed up to Plus, which you need to play online and get access to other PlayStation giveaways too, you’ll be able to download them with no trouble.

Each of these three titles features in our current list of the 25 best PSVR games. In fact, Saints & Sinners is currently in our #2 spot (and tops our list of the best games on Oculus Quest, too). We love it for its visceral, physical zombie action that takes full advantage of the platform, and developer Skydance Interactive recently launched a huge free update for the game, too.

Until You Fall, meanwhile, is a fantastic roguelite from Schell Games with thrilling arcade melee combat. Finally, The Persistence is a great gamepad-based, procedurally generated horror title. It’s developed by Firesprite Games, the UK-based studio that Sony itself recently acquired to make exclusive PlayStation titles in the future. We already know the studio is working on a new VR game, too.

These free PS Plus games also make for a good reason to plug PSVR back in towards the end of its lifecycle. 2022 is approaching and we’re expecting Sony to soon share more on its PS5 VR headset. You can check out everything we know about that device right here.
