Here’s one nice surprise sprinkled into all the Oculus Connect 6 news; popular puzzle series The Room is coming to VR.
The Room VR: A Dark Matter is in the works at series developer Fireproof Games for an early 2020 release. Along with Oculus Quest, the game is also coming to Rift, PSVR and Steam VR headsets (so basically everything). This is an all-new game in the long-running mobile puzzling series, known for its intuitive and in-depth challenges.
This addition to the franchise takes players to London’s British Museum to investigate the disappearance of an Egyptologist. Fireproof says this one is built from the ground up for VR, including fresh interactions developed with motion controllers in mind. A trailer shows players navigating the iconic museum, uncovering a strange phenomenon.
This is, amazingly, the fifth game in The Room series. It’s not, however, Fireproof’s first VR experience. Back in 2016 the developer released Omega Agent, a game set on a small island you navigate with a jetpack. It was a fun little game, though it was one of the most intense early VR releases and really tested your stomach. Someone tellings us The Room will probably be a little more comfortable.
The Room VR is just one of several games announced for Quest this week. Yesterday we also learned that ports of A Fisherman’s Tale and Five Nights at Freddy’s are on the way. There’s even a spin-off of Boneworks in the works for next year. And with Oculus Go and Rift games on the way to Quest, owners are sure to be happy.
