Evil Dead may be one of the few remaining horror franchises to fight off the swarm of VR tie-ins. Well, that’s no longer the case.
Evil Dead: Virtual Nightmare is coming to Gear VR and Oculus Go soon (we don’t know how soon). The game, developed in a collaboration between Boomdash Digital, Ghosthouse Entertainment and Screen Northern Ireland, sees players trying to make an escape from an isolated cabin and forced to fend for themselves as the monsters of the forest descend upon them. There’s a teaser trailer below.
If you know your Evil Dead mobile games (and who doesn’t?) then you’ve probably already realised that this sounds very similar to Evil Dead: Endless Nightmare, a mobile endless runner. It’s almost certainly going to be a direct port of that game, then, where you use your fists to bash zombies away until you get bigger and better weapons like a nail gun and, yes, a chainsaw. Weapons can be upgraded to help you get further on your next go.
Okay, so it’s not exactly the Evil Dead VR game we were hoping for. More than a lot of other horror series, the franchise’s inventive use of weaponry and ear for comedy could make for a truly unique game. How awesome would a chainsaw arm be with motion controls?
