Blasters of the Universe returns alongside a new family-friendly free-roam experience.
Emmy Award-winning VR studio Secret Location (The Great C, Transpose), is back with a brand new helping of location-based VR experiences developed specifically for select VR arcades once again opening their doors to the general public.
Teaming up with experienced LBVR content providers such as Escape VR, Hologate, SynthesisVR, and VRstudios, Secret Location is launching three new VR arcade experiences in total: Blasters of the Universe: VR Bullet Hell, Blasters of the Universe: Infinity Forever, and Paranormal Pest Patrol.
- Blasters of the Universe: VR Bullet Hell – A chaotic multiplayer co-op “bullet hell” in which teams of four must work together to survive the original 2016 VR Bullet Hell experience.
- Blasters of the Universe: Infinity Forever – A brand-spanking-new narrative adventure featuring free-roam locomotion and team activities.
- Paranormal Pest Patrol – A family-friendly escape room experience featuring free-roam locomotion and plenty of laughs.
“Blasters of the Universe: Infinity Forever has a brand new story that honors the original game’s irreverent sense of humor and combines cooperative gameplay elements to take players on an epic journey in free-roam VR,” said Michael Masukawa, Director of Strategy & Business Development at Secret Location, in an official statement. “While the arcade adaptation of the original game is a huge update that has been streamlined and modified with the needs of operators in mind, and it’s ideal for tournaments.”
“As a studio we’ve always experimented with ideas and narratives that push the boundaries of immersive entertainment, and creating content for the location-based market has been one of our key goals,” said Kathryn Rawson, VP of Content at Secret Location. “Our hope, as developers, is that these immersive experiences will bring some much needed fun and escapism to all.”
“We are pumped to collaborate with Secret Location in bringing Blasters of The Universe: Infinity Forever and Paranormal Pest Patrol to VR locations worldwide,” added A Shabeer Sinnalebbe, CEO of Synthesis VR. “Given the current pandemic situation, free-roam VR is a great way to increase ROI in a safe and fun way. Secret Location has time and time again produced amazing VR content and we believe these two free-roam games will help businesses in bringing customers back, albeit with safety in mind.”
No word yet on when we can expect these LBVR games to hit VR arcades.
With much of the world slowly returning to a state of semi-normalcy, it’ll be interesting to see how consumers respond to location-based entertainment in a post-COVID-19 world. While many providers have adopted strict new procedures in regards to hygiene, it’s unclear whether or not this will be enough to win back the confidence of visitors.
