Hello Games’ latest update adds support for PSVR & SteamVR headsets.

Just three years after a less-than-ideal launch, Hello Games’ No Man’s Sky is a robust, content-rich sci-fi gaming experience bolstered by continuous free updates and an extremely dedicated fanbase. Now, with the games biggest update just on the horizon, Hello Games has confirmed the title will be adding support for both console and PC VR; opening up a new realm of possibilities to the already-massive space exploration experience.

Available this summer as a free update, No Man’s Sky: Beyond introduces a variety of changes; including No Man’s Sky Online–a more robust online multiplayer experience– as well as updates to the existing social experience and VR functionality for both the PSVR and HTC’s PC VR lineup. Available for free to all existing players, this VR mode will be featured as part of the full No Man’s Sky experience, allowing VR users to interact and play alongside non-VR users in the same space without skipping a beat. Crafting, exploring new wildlife, piloting spacecraft in-and-out of orbit; every aspect of the core No Man’s Sky experience will be available while in VR mode.

“As creators of No Man’s Sky, we are in love with everything sci-fi,” states the company in an official release. “Virtual reality feels like a science fiction become real, and has always seemed like a perfect fit for this futuristic game of ours. It’s completely unique to land on a world that no-one has ever seen before and to really feel as if you’re there, and the team has worked so hard to make this a true VR experience rather than a port.”

“Grab the joystick and thruster to fly your starship over an unexplored alien planet as you peer out of the cockpit at the view below. Reach into your backpack to grab your multitool, touch it to switch to terrain manipulation, and carve out intricate shapes with unprecedented control. Play in multiplayer and casually wave to your non-VR friends or fist bump your PSVR peers.”

Hello Games first introduced the idea of VR functionality for No Man’s Sky back in October of 2018 after asking fans whether or not they’d like to see their game on headsets. Since then the developers had remained quiet regarding potential support, continuing instead with their pattern of minor free updates.

VR support will launch this summer alongside the Beyond update for both the PSVR and SteamVR; PlayStation 4 owners will have the option of a physical release as well. You’ll want to keep your eyes peeled on Hello Games’ social media, however, as the company is teasing one more big announcement prior to the Beyond update launch this summer.
