The wait is over.
Google has finally confirmed the rollout of Daydream VR to Samsung’s pair of flagship smartphones.
Previously announced at Google I/O in May, Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus owners received news that Daydream VR support would be coming soon to their device. Now that day has finally come, at least according to a tweet by Google VR.
Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus owners could already dive into VR with Samsung’s Gear $129 Gear VR headset. But now with the rollout of Daydream VR support to millions of devices, users can also rock Google’s Daydream View VR headset.
Currently on sale for a limited time in the US at $60 instead of $80, the Daydream View is a comfortable VR headset that supports a variety of apps on the Daydream platform. Daydream View also comes with a small motion controller for navigating VR.
The Daydream VR app is now available on Google Play and should work on your Galaxy S8 or S8 Plus with no OTA update necessary, users are reporting. If you don’t see the Daydream app on your device yet, don’t panic, Google said the “update will take time to finish rolling out.”
