How to get Daydream on your Galaxy S8

http://ift.tt/2w3b98p

Galaxy S8 owners can finally get Daydream!

As promised, an update is rolling out to Galaxy S8 owners that adds Google Daydream to the phone. That means you can choose between a Gear VR and a Daydream View headset to get your VR fix, or maybe even use both if that's what you are into!

Ready to get started? Here's what you'll need to enable Daydream on your Galaxy S8!

Some of you don't need to do anything

If your phone is up to date, and Google has rolled out the VR Services update to your phone, you probably already have Daydream on your phone! The Google update is silent, which means the Daydream logo will just sort of appear on your phone. Check your App Drawer or look around on your homescreen for the bright blue swirl icon. If you have the Daydream app, and you didn't have it installed earlier, you're already ready to go!

No Daydream yet? Check for a System Update

Daydream is only going to work on the most recent version of the Galaxy S8 operating system. To check and see what version you have:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap About phone
  3. Scroll down to Build Number

The Build Number you are looking for is NRD90M.G950USQU1AQG4. If you do not have this version on your phone, you need to check for an available update. To do that:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap System update
  3. Tap Check for system updates

If you have an update available, install it now. If your Galaxy S8 says "No update is necessary at this time" you're going to have to wait for the update to be sent to your phone before you can install Daydream. Once you have the latest update installed, Daydream should be there waiting for you!

Latest update installed but still no Daydream? Here's what to do!

If you know you've confirmed you have the most recent build version but there's still no Daydream for you, there's one more thing you can try.

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap Apps
  3. Find Google VR Services and tap it
  4. Tap Force Stop
  5. Press Home and Go to the Play Store
  6. Search for Daydream
  7. Install Daydream

Tapping Force Stop should restart the app and cause it to restart, which will cause the app to check for the latest update from Google. Once you can see the Daydream app in the Google Play Store, you should be ready to go!
