The internet’s most convenient video-sharing service finally arrives on the world’s most convenient mobile headset.
Owners of the Oculus Go can now breathe a collective sigh of relief as the official YouTube applications has finally landed on the standalone 3DoF mobile VR headset nearly 13 months after its original release.
Starting today, users can now log in to the Oculus Store to find the official YouTube VR app available for download free-of-charge. Similar to its Daydream and SteamVR counterparts, the Oculus Go release will allow access to every video featured in YouTube’s enormous catalogue, including 3D 360-degree videos, as well as immersive 180-degree content.
Sign into your personal YouTube account to access your subscriptions, playlists, watch history, pretty much every feature you’d find on your standard desktop experience. 2D content appears on a massive screen in front of you, sort of like sitting in your own personal movie theatre. For maximum comfort, you can resize or reposition the screen by selecting it with your controller; this way you can either kick-it old school in a chair or couch, or lay back for an even more relaxing experience.
“You can explore everything YouTube has to offer in a whole new way, from holiday favorites and viral videos, to the latest 3D 360° content, all like you’re seeing it for the first time,” states YouTube in an official release. “Listen to Elton John as he performs during the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, take a tour of the Warner Brothers lot with Madeline Petsch, and check out Japan’s bustling arcade scene with Xpert Thief.”
YouTube VR is available for download now on the Oculus Go via the Oculus Store.
