Standing at a terrifying 828-meters tall, Dubai’s Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world. Now, thanks to VR, you can stand at the very top of it.
Developed by UK-based INITION, Mission 828 is a new VR experience showcasing on the HTC Vive inside the Khalifa itself. In the app, you’re cast as an elite operative that must scale the building in order to sabotage an impending cyber attack. Basically, it sounds like that scene from the Mission: Impossible move in which Tom Cruise clings to the side of the building with nothing but a pair of adhesive gloves.
Safe to say, it’s not for the faint of heart. Not to mention it also features simulated wind and 4D cues to really put you in the experience. Great.
You can get a glimpse of the experience in the trailer above. Alongside the daring mission, it offers a glimpse of Dubai’s views. Vertigo is one of the most powerful feelings that can be communicated in VR right now, so this sounds like it could be a truly memorable piece. Sadly there’s no word on a home release right now.
