It looks like PS4’s upcoming 5.50 update will include a small but appreciated new feature for PSVR users.
The update is currently being tested out by several PS4 users in a beta phase before rolling out as a full update within the coming weeks. We haven’t heard much about what’s in the update yet but Reddit user StoviesAreYummy, who seems to be testing the beta right now, recently posted the below image of the PS4 menu.
Granted the picture could be faked, so take this all with a pinch of salt.
Now at first glance it might not look like there’s really anything new there to talk about but, upon closer inspection, you’ll find the PSVR icon under the game’s name. As it stands in the current PS4 menu there’s no standard differentiation between a normal game and a PSVR game. The PS Store itself has banners to show which games are VR, but they disappear when you actually buy the given game and download it.
Granted, you can probably remember which games support VR and which don’t, but this could be a handy feature for when other people use your console. It remains to be seen if the feature will be included in the full 5.50 update, whenever it might hit.
Elsewhere, reports have suggested that update 5.50 will include supersampling support for games on PS4 Pro, though this might have an impact on framerate. While this might help PSVR games look a little sharper, it’s doubtful the feature will support the headset if it means games might not hit the 90fps minimum framerate.
