Rift 2.0 Update Brings Oculus Store, Friend Improvements And More

Oculus’ anticipated Rift Core 2.0 update is set to launch in beta sometime in December. We saw the bulk of improvements it brings at Oculus Connect last month but, now, the company has revealed a few other tweaks.

As detailed over on the Oculus blog, the Rift’s desktop app will also undergo some revisions when 2.0 hits, affecting some of the tentpoles of the user interface. The Store, for example, will now have quick access to Wishlists, letting you add and remove apps from your library and get notifications on when saved apps go on sale.

When it comes to friends, you’ll now be able to view the apps they’ve4 recently accessed and view of a list of friends of friends to find more players to connect with. There’s a new Oculus Updates section with the latest news, too, and you’ll also find quicker access to your library to jump into recently played apps.

These are far from the most significant additions coming in the 2.0 update, though. Back at Connect, Oculus introduced Dash, a new UI centered around its Touch controllers that can be summoned within any app and allows you to access desktop apps in virtual windows and more. Oculus Home, meanwhile, is also being redesigned with far more customization than before, letting you place your own furniture, display achievements and then invite friends around to show it all off.

To get access to the beta, you’ll need to opt-in for access on the Public Test Channel. Oculus notes that the release will still be in its early stages and users may well encounter some issues that will hopefully be fixed in time for the full release next year.
